Carolina Garcia – Senior Social Worker
Continuing Healthcare Team, Hampshire County Council
Caroline is a long-term user of CHIE, and began accessing the system back in 2015 when Hampshire County Council became a CHIE partner organisation.
“CHIE has become a tool I use in my daily practice when I complete assessments of care needs, check for updates when reviewing care plans etc.”
Does using CHIE save you time?
“Having access to CHIE definitely saves me time. I use CHIE several times a week to find the most up to date information regarding individual’s condition, e.g. input from district nurses, information about care and treatment, changes in medication”
What does using CHIE mean for you and the care you deliver?
“Having access to most up to date information is very useful for decision making purposes and enable us to complete better assessments and enhances the care planning process”. For example, I was asked to review a client’s file with regards to make a recommendation about funding (whether the NHS should continue paying for her care or whether her needs should be met by social care). I checked CHIE and I could see that district nurses were providing End of Life/ Palliative care for the client. This information helped inform the eventual decision to stop any further funding assessments and to continue NHS funding to support the patient through their end-of-life care package.”
If CHIE wasn’t available, professionals would need to spend more time making phone calls and writing emails to gather information leading to incorrect or delayed decision making.”
What would you say to anyone who hasn’t started using CHIE yet?
“It is a very useful application for professionals working in health and social care.”
